Generation 4: Sinnoh

Diamond and Pearl brought Pokémon to the Nintendo DS and to online play through Wi-Fi trading and battling. Their most lasting change was the physical and special split: each move, rather than each type, now decides which attacking stat it uses. Platinum expanded the story around the Distortion World.

Sinnoh added 107 species, including the creation trio Dialga, Palkia and Giratina, the lake guardians, and Arceus. Its starters are Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup. Like Johto, it gave older Pokémon new evolutions such as Magnezone, Rhyperior and Togekiss. The region was remade in 2021 and revisited in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
