Generation 3: Hoenn

Ruby and Sapphire moved the series to the Game Boy Advance and rebuilt its foundations: Abilities, Natures, double battles, and the Effort Value system that underpins competitive play were all introduced here. Emerald tied both versions together and added the Battle Frontier.

Hoenn contributed 135 species, among them the weather trio Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza, the Regis, Latias and Latios, and the Mythicals Jirachi and Deoxys. Its starters are Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip. The region was remade in 2014 as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
