Generation 8: Galar

Sword and Shield were the first main-series games on a home console, the Nintendo Switch. They introduced the Wild Area, the series’ first open, free-camera space, and Dynamax, which grows a Pokémon to giant size for three turns. The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra were the first paid expansions in the main series.

Galar, modelled on Great Britain, added 89 species, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus later adding Hisuian evolutions such as Wyrdeer, Kleavor and Ursaluna to the same number range. Zacian, Zamazenta and Eternatus lead the Legendaries. The starters are Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble.
